HackTX is an annual hackathon at the University of Texas at Austin. A hackathon is a space for students of any major to come together and come up with creative solutions using technology. They are a place to learn, to meet others, and to innovate. We design our hackathons to be beginner-friendly, and we will have plenty of mentors and workshops to guide you.

Check out https://hacktx.com/ for additional information!

[Title Sponsor: Meta/Facebook] Bringing People Closer Together with AI
3 winners

At Meta and Facebook, we believe technology can bring people closer together and deepen real human connections. Build the AI-powered social product you wish existed, or one that helps strengthen connections you care about in new ways.

AI should play a meaningful role in the experience. It might synthesize a group discussion into plans everyone would enjoy, organize scattered family updates into a shared story, or identify common interests that could spark a new connection.

Projects will be judged on how meaningfully they strengthen human connection, how essential and well-integrated AI is, originality, and the strength of the working demo.

The top three teams, selected by Meta judges, will receive:
- Invitation to advance to the Round 2 Hackathon hosted at Meta's Menlo Park campus. Travel and accommodations provided. Advancement to Round 2 is subject to eligibility verification and compliance with Meta's Round 2 Official Rules.
- Meta swag bag

We encourage you to try out and explore Meta’s AI tools and APIs to power your hacks:
- Muse Spark: Meta’s text model for chat, reasoning, and agentic experiences
- Muse Image: Meta’s image-generation model.
- Muse Voice Transcribe: Meta’s real-time audio perception model
- Muse: Meta's first personal AI agent, powered by Muse Spark. You can explore writing connectors, exposing your project's data or actions as a tool Muse can call.
- Facebook Graph API: Access public and user-consented data through a developer app.

Judging Criteria

  • Technology
How technically impressive or difficult was the hack? Did you use clever techniques, multiple components, or a complex setup that made the judges go "wow"?
  • Design
How much thought was put into the user experience (UX) and interface design? For software, this covers clean CSS and graphics; for hardware, it focuses on human-computer interaction and ease of use.
  • Completion
Does the working hack actually function? Did you accomplish what you set out to build during the time limit?
  • Learning
Did you stretch your skills and try to learn something new? Shifting out of one's comfort zone (e.g., a VR developer building a mobile app) is actively rewarded.
